Because it provides benefits that society values . . .
Communication . . . conveys ideas and messages . . . challenging and disrupting accepted norms and precepts . . . connecting in ways that traditional verbal or written modes are ill-equipped
Education . . . teaches shared values, morals, openness, and understanding
Emotion . . . expresses a natural instinctive or intuitive state of mind, i.e., one’s “feelings” . . . at a deeper level and in a more heart-felt fashion
Exposure . . . lances potent social disharmonies, i.e., opening them up and exposing them to the “sunlight” . . . allowing the discord to “drain” and begin the desired healing process
Socialization . . . brings community together to identify, explore, and address society’s concerns . . . leading to their favorable evolution, enhancing social harmony
Style . . . reveals an aesthetic . . . delivering reflection, joy, hope, and social engagement
Therapy . . . nurtures peoples’ mental and emotional health . . . in ways, and to extents, that everyday communication can’t accomplish or even attempt
